At FORMOSA TOOLS we are very proud of our quality and craftsmanship and choosing the proper metal is the first step. All of our products are manufactured from the highest quality metals and raw materials. We employ CIS and JIS certified S50C carbon steel, SK5 high carbon steel, SCM alloy steel, and 420 and 430 stainless steel. All of our metals are produced in world-class steel mills in Japan and Taiwan.
To ensure the precision and durability of our products, R&D (research and development) is conducted at our company-owned facility. All tooling and molds are engineered and fabricated by CNC machines in our tooling department to provide the best "platform" for press stamping, die-casting and plastic- injection equipment. At the press-stamping department coiled metal sheets are transformed into components and parts through a series of production procedures such as stamping, trimming, bending, hole punching, and shaping by our automatic and semi-automatic process operations. We always ensure the accuracy and precision by randomly testing components at our production department.
The next step is tempering and heat-treating, which are the most critical elements of manufacturing a cutting tool. Formosa Tools Co., Ltd. owns a proprietary database of heat-treating and hardness procedures and methods, based on three generations of workmanship and tool making. All metal parts for cutting tools are heat treated three times or more. In general, these procedures begin with gas-generated heat treatment on the whole component. Then the electricity-generated high frequency heat treatment increases the hardness of the torque areas, such as, cutting edges or shaft joints. The final quality step is another gas-generated heat treatment, which will "balance the hardness to maximize the combined hardness and flexibility. Every heat-treated and hardened part is checked with Rockwell hardness test automatically to ensure the appropriate hardness characteristics have been applied. In addition, we also conduct material element analysis at our test labs. Therefore, the material structure is uniform and consistent, and meets the very highest standards in the business.
The next processing step is grinding and polishing. As metal components and blades are sharpened and polished by our "fleet" of grinding machineries, all water used and waste is recycled at this site. We use ultra-sound technology to wash and clean all parts before the final cloth polishing. Prior to applying the surface coating or plating, all parts must be treated with chemical processes to form the adhesion bridge between surface coating and the metal parts. Formosa Tools Co., Ltd. was the first garden tool manufacturer in Taiwan to obtain the Teflon license from DuPont. Our in-house coating systems are capable of applying TEFLON, PTFE and epoxy powder coating. Assembly is the last step of manufacturing. We have multiple assembly lines to meet the production capacity needs. As we produce most of all the parts and components in our own facilities, we are in full control of our production and scheduling.

Our Q.A. (quality assurance) team conducts a series of tests and inspection at all levels and at every process of production. Rockwell hardness, sharpness, cutting capacity, material fatigue, torque, and rust resistance to name just a few.Before we deliver the finished products to our customers, they are re-inspected and re-packed. These inspections assure that everything is 100% correct. Quality is our number one business goal.
